Colour Doppler at AV Scan, Dadar West

Colour Doppler ultrasound combines standard B-mode ultrasound with colour-coded blood flow information — allowing our radiologists to assess blood vessels, detect clots, evaluate blood flow velocity and identify vascular disease in real time.

AV Scan operates two advanced Doppler-capable systems — the GE Voluson E10 with HD-Flow Doppler (the world's most sensitive colour Doppler for obstetric studies) and the Philips Affiniti 70G for general vascular Doppler.

Types of Colour Doppler We Perform

Carotid Doppler

Assesses blood flow through the carotid arteries in the neck — detecting plaque, stenosis and flow abnormalities that indicate stroke risk. Recommended for patients with hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol or history of TIA.

Lower Limb Venous Doppler (DVT)

Detects deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — blood clots in the leg veins. Urgent assessment for swollen, painful legs especially after prolonged immobility, surgery or travel.

Lower Limb Arterial Doppler

Assesses peripheral arterial disease — reduced blood flow to the legs causing claudication, rest pain or non-healing ulcers.

Renal Doppler

Evaluates blood flow to the kidneys — for renal artery stenosis, transplant kidney assessment and resistive index measurement.

Obstetric Doppler

Using the GE Voluson E10's HD-Flow Doppler — the most sensitive obstetric Doppler available globally — we assess:

  • Umbilical artery Doppler — placental resistance, fetal well-being
  • Middle cerebral artery (MCA) Doppler — fetal anaemia screening
  • Uterine artery Doppler — pre-eclampsia risk assessment
  • Ductus venosus Doppler

Portal Vein Doppler

Evaluates portal vein blood flow direction and velocity — for portal hypertension, liver cirrhosis and Budd-Chiari syndrome assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Colour Doppler uses sound waves to assess blood flow through vessels in real time. It detects blood clots (DVT), artery blockages, measures flow velocity and evaluates vessel narrowing. In pregnancy, it assesses placental blood flow and fetal well-being.
Suspected DVT should be assessed promptly — ideally the same day. If you have a swollen, painful, red or warm leg, please contact us immediately. Deep vein thrombosis can lead to life-threatening pulmonary embolism if untreated.
Preparation depends on the type: carotid and limb Doppler require no preparation. Renal Doppler requires 4–6 hours fasting. Obstetric Doppler requires no preparation. We will advise you at the time of booking.
Colour Doppler reports are delivered same day, signed by our FMF-certified consultant radiologists.
