TIFFA Scan at AV Scan, Dadar West

The TIFFA scan (Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomalies), also called the anomaly scan or level 2 scan, is the most detailed fetal assessment performed during pregnancy — typically between 18 and 22 weeks. At AV Scan, all TIFFA scans are performed on the GE Voluson E10 by FMF (UK) and ISUOG certified radiologists.

The TIFFA scan is the single most important ultrasound of your pregnancy — it systematically surveys every major fetal organ and structure. Choosing an experienced, certified specialist with advanced equipment significantly improves the detection of fetal anomalies.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are the same scan — TIFFA (Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomalies) is the formal name. It is also called the anomaly scan, level 2 scan, morphology scan or the 20-week scan.
No ultrasound scan can detect 100% of fetal abnormalities. However, a detailed TIFFA scan on advanced equipment like the GE Voluson E10, performed by certified specialists following ISUOG protocol, gives the highest possible detection rate — significantly better than scans on older machines or by less experienced operators.
Dr. Avinash or Dr. Vaishnavi Bansal will explain findings clearly at the time of the scan. We have close referral links with fetal medicine specialists and genetic counsellors should further assessment be needed.
Allow 45–60 minutes for the TIFFA scan. The duration depends on fetal position and cooperation — some structures may need to be reassessed after the baby moves.
At 18–22 weeks, a full bladder is usually not necessary. However, if the baby is lying in an awkward position, walking and having a small amount to drink may help reposition the baby for better views.
