How to refer a patient
Booking starts from your prescription. Your patient can send it to us, or your clinic can book for them.
- The patient books: they WhatsApp a photo of your prescription to +91 98200 51511. Our team confirms the slot, the preparation and the exact price on WhatsApp before the visit.
- Your clinic books: call or WhatsApp +91 98200 51511 (landline 022-3522 0711) with the patient's name, mobile number and the study required.
- Walk-in: X-ray, ECG and blood tests can be done without an appointment during opening hours. Blood samples are collected at the centre.
- Appointment preferred: MRI, CT, mammography and ultrasound-guided procedures, so that fasting, contrast screening, implant checks and any clotting tests are settled before the patient arrives.
AV Scan is an outpatient diagnostic centre. Please send patients with sudden severe symptoms to a hospital emergency department first: for example a suspected stroke, severe chest pain or breathlessness, major trauma, suspected testicular torsion (imaging should not delay surgical assessment) or any unstable patient.
What to write on the prescription
A clear clinical question lets us tailor the protocol and makes the report more useful. Please include:
- The clinical question and the study requested, with side and level where relevant, for example "MRI left knee: ? medial meniscal tear after twisting injury".
- Relevant history: duration of symptoms, key examination findings, previous surgery or treatment, and any known malignancy or staging question.
- Prior imaging reports and CDs with dates; studies done earlier at AV Scan can be pulled up for comparison.
- Allergy history: any previous reaction to contrast (CT/iodinated or MRI/gadolinium, if known), asthma or other significant allergies, and diabetes medicines such as metformin.
- Renal status: known kidney disease or dialysis, and a recent serum creatinine if available; if there is none, it can be done at the centre before the scan.
- Implants: pacemaker or defibrillator, cochlear implant, neurostimulator, programmable shunt, aneurysm clip, insulin pump or glucose sensor, metallic foreign body (including metal fragments in the eye) or recent surgery, with the device card or make and model.
- Pregnancy, or possible pregnancy, before any CT, X-ray, mammogram or MRI.
- For biopsy or FNAC: anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines and any bleeding disorder. The doctor who prescribed the medicine decides whether it can be paused, and patients should not stop it on their own; our team will say if a PT/INR or platelet count is required.
- Your mobile number, so that we can reach you with an urgent finding.
Reports and urgent findings
Most reports are ready the same day, sent to your patient's WhatsApp. MRI, CT, ultrasound and mammography reports are signed by one of our radiologists. Mammography and breast ultrasound are reported using BI-RADS categories.
Urgent or unexpected findings are communicated directly to the referring doctor, which is why your number on the prescription matters. Who reports your patients' studies
AV Scan was founded by our radiologists, Dr. Avinash Bansal and Dr. Vaishnavi Bansal, both MD (Radiology) and FMF (UK) certified, who report the studies themselves. They work across modalities together on MRI, CT, Doppler, pregnancy and general ultrasound.
Dr. Avinash Bansal has particular expertise in musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging, fetal medicine and all kinds of Doppler, and also reports MRI and CT and performs interventional procedures.
Dr. Vaishnavi Bansal is our breast imaging specialist and performs every breast ultrasound herself. She also reports CT and MRI and performs pregnancy scans and sonosalpingography (SSG) with HyCoSy.
Protocols, contrast and patient safety
Every MRI is planned for the clinical question on your prescription, with additional sequences added as needed. Equipment: Fujifilm ECHELON Smart 1.5T MRI with quieter scanning and in-scanner music, multi-slice Fujifilm Supria CT, Fujifilm Amulet Innovality 3D mammography, and GE Voluson E10 and Philips Affiniti 70G ultrasound (equipment details).
- CT contrast: used when the clinical question needs it; about 4 hours without food beforehand, and water is allowed. Kidney function is assessed before contrast, and a recent creatinine report may be requested. For patients on metformin, we check their kidney function (eGFR) and advise them.
- MRI contrast (gadolinium): given only when it adds to the answer. Please mention severe kidney disease or dialysis and any previous reaction. In pregnancy, gadolinium is generally avoided unless it is clearly needed.
- MRCP: about 4-6 hours without food; water is allowed. An antispasmodic injection is sometimes used for MRCP and pelvic MRI; the radiologist checks for contraindications before it is given.
- Sedation: MRI sedation is available when needed, under the supervision of an anaesthesiologist. Patients having sedation need to fast beforehand and should come with a responsible adult; our team gives the exact instructions. Please tell us when booking.
- Pacemakers and implants: some pacemakers and MR-conditional implants can be scanned under supervision, following the device's MRI conditions; others cannot. An MR-conditional pacemaker usually needs to be switched to an MRI mode by the patient's cardiology or device team before the scan and restored afterwards. Please share the device details before booking.
- Radiation: CT protocols follow the ALARA principle (CT radiation explained).

Same-day ultrasound-guided biopsy and FNAC
When a scan shows a lesion that needs tissue, same-day ultrasound-guided biopsy is possible when needed. Our radiologists perform FNAC, core biopsy and aspiration or drainage of cysts, collections and pleural fluid under ultrasound guidance; a small number of targets that ultrasound cannot show well are sampled under CT guidance. Samples go to our partner pathology laboratory, which issues the cytology or histopathology report (biopsy and FNAC details).
Every mammogram here is paired with a breast ultrasound, so a suspicious breast lesion can often be assessed in one visit and, when needed, sampled the same day.

We are cashless with most major insurers and TPAs, and empanelled for CGHS, ECHS and MJPJAY; patients should mention their cover when booking, and our team will tell them which documents to bring (insurance and CGHS details).
