Frequently Asked Questions

Cost, preparation, contrast, pregnancy, insurance — the questions our patients ask most often, answered by our radiologists.

At AV Scan, MRI scans start from ₹6,000 for a single body part on our Fujifilm Echelon Smart 1.5T system. Final price depends on body part, contrast use, and insurance/TPA. WhatsApp +91 98200 51511 for an exact quote in 5 minutes.

CT scans start from ₹2,500 (CT Brain plain) up to ₹9,500+ for CT coronary angiography. HRCT chest is from ₹3,500. See our full pricing page.

Yes. Ultrasound starts from ₹1,200, vs MRI from ₹6,000. Ultrasound uses no radiation and is the first imaging choice for pregnancy, soft-tissue, and abdominal evaluation.

For most MRI scans (brain, spine, joints), no fasting is required. For abdominal MRI or MRCP, we ask for 4–6 hours of fasting. We confirm exact prep on WhatsApp at booking time.

For pelvic and lower abdominal ultrasound, yes — we'll ask you to drink ~1 litre of water 1 hour before and avoid the toilet until after the scan. For early pregnancy scans, full bladder helps. For NT scan and later trimester, no full bladder needed.

Loose clothing without metal (zips, hooks, underwire) is best. We provide gowns if needed. Remove jewellery, watches, hearing aids, and any electronic devices before entering the MRI room. Tattoos are usually safe — let us know in advance.

Our Fujifilm Echelon Smart 1.5T is a wide-bore MRI (70cm), much more comfortable than older systems. Our scans are also among the quietest in Mumbai. Most claustrophobic patients complete scans here without sedation. We allow a family member to sit beside you.

MRI contrast (gadolinium) and CT contrast (iodinated) are well-tolerated by the vast majority of patients. We screen for kidney function and allergy history before any contrast scan. The decision is made by your referring doctor.

Our Fujifilm Supria CT uses iterative reconstruction to lower dose by up to 75% vs older systems. A typical chest CT is around 3–7 mSv (similar to 1–2 years of natural background radiation). For children and young adults we use even lower paediatric protocols.

Yes. Most reports are ready the same day — usually within 2–4 hours. Urgent findings are called to your referring doctor immediately. Reports are delivered via WhatsApp, email, in person, or downloadable from our patient portal.

Visit our reports page and enter your mobile number + date of birth. We also send a secure WhatsApp link. For images (CD/DICOM), we offer cloud download or pickup at the centre.

Our radiologists are happy to walk you through the findings — call ahead to schedule a brief consultation. For most patients, your referring doctor will explain the report in clinical context.

MRI is generally safe in pregnancy after the first trimester when clinically indicated, and we avoid contrast unless absolutely necessary. CT uses ionising radiation and is avoided in pregnancy unless life-threatening conditions are suspected. Ultrasound is the preferred imaging in pregnancy.

The Fetal Medicine Foundation (UK) certifies sonologists who perform first-trimester nuchal translucency (NT) scans to a standardised protocol. Dr. Vaishnavi Bansal at AV Scan is FMF-certified — her NT measurements are audited annually for accuracy.

Between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. We follow the ISUOG anomaly scan protocol and review every fetal organ system. The scan typically takes 30–45 minutes.
